GR Saaz CY25 from Spalter Hopfen is one of the more unusual offerings in the German hop program: true Saaz character, grown in the Spalt region of Bavaria. Spalter and Saaz are close botanical relatives — both fine, spicy landrace hops — and Spalt's terroir has long been compared to Žatec, which makes German-grown Saaz a natural fit for the region and a distinctive option for brewers building pilsner, Czech-style lager, and Kölsch.
Expect classic noble Saazer character: fine, herbal, earthy spice with low alpha and an elegant finish. Use it exactly as you'd use its Czech counterpart — generous late-kettle additions in pilsner and pale lager, where its refinement defines the beer — with the added supply-chain simplicity of sourcing it alongside the rest of your German hop bill.
This hop is available in 11 lb foils and 44 lb boxes. Choose the 11 lb foil for trials and seasonal lagers; choose the 44 lb box when Saaz drives a core pilsner program and purchasing efficiency matters — four sealed 11 lb foils per box keeps opened inventory fresh.
Hop analysis values vary by crop year and lot. The CY25 lot runs 3.1% alpha; for exact alpha, beta, and total oil values, refer to the COA or contact our team. Cold-stored in Fort Worth and Atlanta and lot-documented from Spalt to your dock.
