Hazy IPA New England IPA Hazy Pale Ale Hazy Double IPA

Build Overview

Hazy IPA flips the West Coast formula. Bitterness steps back, texture steps forward, and the hops read as juice — tropical fruit, citrus, and stone fruit — carried on a soft, full, pillowy body with a gentle finish.

The grist builds that texture deliberately. Briess Brewers Malt (2-Row) anchors the base, while Flaked Oats and Flaked White Wheat add the silkiness, protein, and stable haze the style depends on. IREKS White Wheat Malt is a strong malted-wheat option for brewers who want wheat character with better runoff behavior than raw adjuncts alone.

Hopping is late, heavy, and aroma-first. Citra and Mosaic form the modern hazy core of citrus, tropical fruit, and berry, Strata layers in strawberry, passionfruit, and a light dank edge, and Sabro pushes coconut, cream, and tangerine. Keep the bittering charge minimal and concentrate the bill in whirlpool and dry hop additions.

Yeast does real flavor work in this style. Lallemand New England brings the classic ester-forward East Coast profile, Verdant IPA delivers soft stone-fruit character with full body, WLPD066 London Fog leans into the round, fruity English-derived expression hazy brewers built the style on, and AEB Fermoale New-E offers an English-leaning ester profile that suits the style's roots. This build fits breweries that want a repeatable hazy program without chasing one-off ingredients.

Brewer Notes

The adjunct load is the point, but it has consequences. Oats and wheat slow runoff and raise beta-glucan levels — a glucanase-style process enzyme and patient lautering keep brew day on schedule.

Oxygen destroys this style faster than any other. Hazy IPAs brown and dull quickly with cold-side pickup, so tighten transfers, purge everything, and protect the beer hardest at dry hopping and packaging.

Balance the haze, don't chase it. The appearance should come from the grist, the hop load, and the yeast working together — a stable, bright-flavored hazy beats a murky one every time.
